Development

VALORGA INTERNATIONAL constantly developed since its creation in May 1981, the MSW anaerobic digestion treatment and the process Valorga® all over the world.

Two important steps lead up to the successes of our development:

  • A research and development phase in laboratory followed by a process fine-tuning on industrialized pilot during the first seven years,
  • An industrial development of the process Valorga® all over the world lasts for 40 years.

Hereafter, the most important phases of process development :

  • 1982: Pilot from 5 m³ in Montpellier (France) for attempts of anaerobic digestion on the organic fraction of the household refuse and the mixture of substrata (liquid manures + household waste).
  • 1986 – 1987: Pilot from 50 m³ in Vannes (France) for attempts of anaerobic digestion of mixture of substrata (organic fraction of the household waste, liquids manure, purification sludge).
  • 1984 – 1990: Pilot from 500 m³ in La Buisse (near Grenoble – France) for the treatment of 8,000 tons by year of household waste.
  • 1988 : Pilot from 250 m³ in the University of Liège in Belgium treating a mixture of straw compost and liquid manures.

This fundamental stages of Research and Development allowed to validate the limits of the process Valorga® as well as performances.

Valorga was able to make a commitment launching the phase of industrial-scale development which started with the construction and start-up of the first anaerobic digestion plant for MSW treatment in the world with high dry matter content (“dry process”) in Amiens (France) in August 1988, handling the totality of the household waste of this municipality with 55 000 tons a year.

Valorga was able to make a commitment launching the phase of industrial-scale development which started with the construction and start-up of the first anaerobic digestion plant for MSW treatment in the world with high dry matter content (“dry process”) in Amiens, (France), in August 1988, handling the totality of the household waste of this municipality with 55 000 tons a year.

In 1996, the treatment capacity has been extended to include the waste coming from the municipalities of Abbeville, resulting in a total treatment capacity of 85 000 tons per year. This plant is the first full scale industrial reference of biological MSW treatment by anaerobic digestion using the Valorga technology.
